Elevator Service and Amenities

Elevator for baby strollers, walking disabilities, heavy burdens, or just plain old "tired dawgs."  Unattended children are not allowed use.  Comfortable foyer and public restooms. Lower entrance leads to back parking lot.

Open by appointment, year round. Also open during the summer, on the 3rd Saturday of each month, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.

The Second Tuesday of the Month 

at 7:00 pm


 Alton Book Chat, established in 1999,is a library-sponsored book discussion group that meets monthly in the Agnes Thompson Meeting Room (lower level entrance), Gilman Library, 100 Main St., Alton, NH 03809.  

Unless otherwise noted, meetings are held on the second Tuesday each month, beginning at 7:00 pm.  Call the library at 875-2550 to reserve your copy of the next book discussion title and get in on the fun!

Computer Basics for Beginners Group Class  is currently on hiatus until further notice.  You may continue to schedule free* one-on-one instruction (held on the main level) on Tuesdays or Thursdays, by appointment.

Lego Club

On the Third Saturday  at 11:00 am.

LEGO Club meets the third Saturday of each month,from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm, in the Children's Wing. If you are the first to arrive,  Ask for the LEGOS at the circulation desk. 

 

Story Time with Granny Apple Resumes

Granny Apple meets here with preschoolers on Tuesdays at 1:45pm, during the school year..  She reads story books,  plays the guitar, teaches songs, and involves the children in inter-active story-telling.  Come on in and join the fun!  If school is closed for vacation or weather closings, there is no Granny Apple.  Check the library calendar for up-to-date information, or give the library a call at 875-2550. 


Story Times are conducted at Whimsy Corner, in the Margaret E. Kayser Room (main floor, children's wing) during the school year, whenever school is in session.  If the Alton schools are closed for holidays, vacations or inclement weather,  the Story Time normally held on that day will also be canceled. 

Teen Movie Matinee

AN UPDATE REGARDING Teen Movie Matinee

Every third Thursday, we show a teen movie at 4:00 pm in the Teen Zone!

We will be changing days!!!!

This week, Thursday, November 15th, is the LAST Thursday that Teen Movie Matinee will be at 4:00 pm on a THURSDAY.


There will be NO DECEMBER Teen Movie Matinee.

Teen Movie Matinees will resume on the third TUESDAY, January 15th, at 4:00pm and on the third TUESDAY of each month, thereafter.


Admission is free.  Refreshments are served. There will be a door prize for one lucky winner.

We welcome your input and suggestions as we choose the titles.  Come on in, sit back, and enjoy the show!

Teen Movie Schedule

Theater Thursdays

The First Thursday of each month, at 2:00 pm.


On the first Thursday of each month, at 2:00 pm, the Gilman Library offers new and classic movies to enjoy with complimentary beverages and snacks to go hand in hand.  You will also receive a raffle ticket for coming and have the chance to win that night's movie theme related prize.  No sign-up is required.  Come and enjoy the show!   For more info, use our contact form or call 875-2550.
