NOTICES

WEATHER CLOSINGS

In extreme weather conditions, tune to WMUR or your local radio for updates regarding the library closing. Please note that the library closes and programs are canceled when Alton Central School and Prospect Mountain High School have a weather closing. In the event of a delayed opening, all morning programs are canceled. Please tune to WMUR or your local radio for updates.

If Alton Central School and Prospect Mountain High School are closed due to inclement weather conditions, the Gilman Library will be closed and all library-sponsored programs will be canceled. If there is a school delay, the library will be open. If inclement weather and poor travel conditions occur in the evening, on a weekend, or on a school vacation day, the library may be closed or close early, at the discretion of the Library Director. In all cases of library weather closings, please check with WMUR for the latest updates.

ARE YOU GETTING YOUR TEXT AND EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS?

The Gilman Library offers a wonderful feature for text messaging. Gabbie℠ Text-a-Librarian is a way to communicate with staff during open hours and also get automated renewal service 24/7. Our circulation also utilizes the library SMS (short message service) number, 603-267-4302, for automated text notifications.

Most of our Patrons report that they love this feature. However, some customers have reported random delivery issues with text messages. Sometimes they do not receive their text messages, even though their carriers reported the message as 'Delivered' in the Gilman Library Notification report.

To be sure that this does not happen with your messages, just add our Gabbie℠ SMS number, 603-267-4302 to your phone's Contact List, and the messages will get through. If you have been having problems, let us know immediately, and we will test it.

Along that same line, please also bookmark our Gilman Library email, 781@reply.biblionix.com, in your Email Contact List, to ensure you receive check-out receipts or other notices that might be diverted to your Spam folder or permanently blocked by your email provider.

MUSEUM PASS REIMBURSEMENT

In lieu of Library Passes to specific museums, the Gilman library offers a Museum Pass Reimbursement Plan.  If you are a library card holder in good standing, you may participate.  Simply submit your receipt  to have a reimbursement check issued for up to $20.00 per cardholder per visit with a limit of $60.00 per year. HOW TO GET A LIBRARY CARD

All year-round Alton residents and Alton taxpayers are eligible for an individual or family card free of charge.

Non-residents

You are invited to become a member and have full use of all our materials and services for a fee of $20 per year. That is less than the cost of one hardcover book or a few paperbacks, or a week of one video rental (our videos checkout for a full week).

Visitors

If you do not wish to become a patron, you may still browse through our materials and take advantage of our free services. Although our patrons have priority, if you are 18 or older, you may use our Public Access Computers. You may help yourself to items in our free swap shelves of magazines, paperbacks and jigsaw puzzles. Our wifi is available by connecting to:  GilmanLibraryPatronWiFi.

JUST A REMINDER ...

We appreciate your generous donations of gently used items.  However, due to limited space, *all* donations need to be *approved* at the circulation desk, rather than deposited in the after-hours-book-return-drop-box.     DVDs and CDs must never be dropped into the after-hours-book-return-drop-box, as they can be damaged by incoming returns.     The after-hours-book-return-drop-box is for just for returns only, returned after hours only.   All other items should be returned directly to the circulation desk.    *Due to limited space, donations to our book sale must be gently used, and no older than five years.  Additional criteria must be met to add items to the collection. Thank you for your considerate cooperation.
